The Historic Willing Helpers Society

The Willing Helpers Society was founded in 1903 to serve African Americans in Charles County in particular and the greater Southern Maryland area overall. The Society became a refuge for the underserve black population and was looked upon as a place where people were treated with dignity and respect. Having being founded before the NAACP, the Society's heart was to serve the community inwhich it had been placed and be there for those in need. Its impact on the community is still evident.

The Willing Helper's Society, participated in LifeStyles' Safe Nights Program,  and sheltered and fed along with According To The Word Church more than 30 homeless men, women and children for a week in December 2014. With the assistance of Unity Baptist Church and donations from private citizens, local community businesses, and restaurants, the week was a complete success. Safe Nights participants commented on the quality and quantity of food, the welcoming atmosphere and the beautiful interior of the building.

Membership in the Willing Helpers Society is open to all. If you have a desire to serve God by serving others then you will find great joy serving with us as we make a positive impact on our community. The Willing Helpers Society is a Non-Profit Organization. If you woud like to donate, please send your gifts to Willing Helpers Society, 1002 Washington Avenue, La Pata, MD 20646
